The Life & Work of Thomas Chippendale, Set of 2 (Books)

About the Item

Two brown cloth covered volumes in similar slipcase with gilt titles which was published to mark the bicentennial of Thomas Chippendale's death. Volume 1 is the text and covers - Chippendale's Life and Business, Chippendale's Furniture Designs, Chippendale's Patrons. The last section covers a good half of the book and lists the private commissions in chronological order, in particular there is much detail on the now famous Dumfries House Commission which has been kept in tact by Prince Charles and a Charity set up for that purpose. 329 pages with25 color plates. Volume 2 consists of 525 black and white plates over 288 pages showing examples of the furniture and sketches by Chippendale. An essential work for any collector or dealer in furniture.
