"Dodsworth" by Sinclair Lewis, Published: Jonathan Cape, Thirty Bedford Square, London, 1929. Retains its original dust jacket now covered in mylar. This is the first U.K. edition (scarcer than the American edition) and retains its original dust jacket. Considered a minor classic by critics at the time of publication, the novel is about a retired automobile dealer, Sam Dodsworth, who retires early and decides to tour Europe with his wife. They soon realize their very different perspectives on life and love in their search for their true selves. The book was made into a movie in 1936 starring Walter Huston, in the title role, as well as Mary Astor, David Niven and Ruth Chatterton.

The Beautiful and the Damned was Fitzgerald’s second novel, following his debut This Side of Paradise. Semi-autobigraphical, Fitzgerald modeled the characters of Anthony Patch and Gloria Gilbert on himself and his new spouse Zelda Fitzgerald and the story draws circumstantially upon the early years of Fitzgeralds' tempestuous marriage. Fitzgerald started writing The Beautiful and the Damned in August of 1920, while in Westport Connecticut.
