First edition, third printing of Edith Head’s memoir about her career as one of Hollywood’s greatest and most influential costume designers, the recipient of a record 35 Academy Award nominations and 8 Oscars for Best Costume Design, making her the most awarded and nominated woman in the Academy’s history. A behind-the-scenes look at her work with a who’s who of Hollywood royalty including Mae West, Clara Bow, Shirley Temple, Carole Lombard, Dorothy Lamour, Veronica Lake, Ginger Rogers, Barbara Stanwyck, Loretta Young, Ingrid Bergman, Ethel Barrymore, Joan Fontaine, Olivia de Havilland, Miriam Hipkins, Hedy Lamarr, Bette Davis, Jennifer Jones, Gloria Swanson, Jane Wyman, Rosalind Russell, Rosemary Clooney, Deborah Kerr, Joan Crawford, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Mitzi Gaynor, Katherine Hepburn, Eva Marie Saint, Rita Hayworth, Anna Magnani, Doris Day, Shirley MacLaine, Carolyn Jones, and Grace Kelley, along with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Danny Kaye, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Jerry Lewis, Yul Brynner, Alfred Hitchcock, William Wyler, George Cukor, Cecil B. DeMille, Charlton Heston, and Tony Perkins. 8vo (8.25” x 5.5”), hardcover with pictorial dust jacket, 249 pages illustrated with b/w photographs and sketches. Published in 1959 by Little, Brown, and Company. Co-authored by Jane Keasner Ardmore, with a concluding section providing Prescriptions for Dressing. Boldly signed (Cordially-Edith Head) on the front free endpaper.
