First edition hardcover with dust jacket, 1966. 251 pp. An overview of the Caroline period in country houses in Great Britain.The book discusses the development of the country house in architectural terms, the period of history and the lives and interests of their builders. Some of the 25 homes described include Wilton, Forde Abbey, Longnor Hall, Gelton House and Clifton Hall. It is illustrated with over 400 photos, most of which were taken for this book.
