Green Mansions: A Romance of the Tropical Forest by William Henry Hudson. New York: Knopf, 1943. First Edition thus hardcover. With a foreword by John Galsworthy. Illustrated with paintings and drawings by Horacio Butler 231pp. Centenary edition with the original Galsworthy foreword with full page color illustrations by Argentinian artist Horacio Butler. About a traveler to the Guyana jungle of southeastern Venezuela and his encounter with a forest dwelling girl named RIMA. The book is formerly from the collection of Edgar M. Tennis MD who generously donated to the State of Maine approximately 100 acres to be used for walking trails, education, and research. The area is called "The Edgar M. Tennis Preserve." He was born in Virginia in 1896 and died in Maine in 1980. Tennis graduated from UVA Medical School and had an ENT practice in NJ. He purchased some of the acreage and a cabin on the property in 1944.
