Nine recent projects by renowned architect John Ike
A signature shingled house in a New York suburb, a renovated mid-century modern house in San Diego, a glass-and-brick house near Seattle, a beach house on the Atlantic coast, a reimagined historic building in Brooklin, Maine—the projects featured in this book vary widely in style, location, and materials, but all share a common sensibility. For John Ike, partner at Ike Baker Velten and formerly a founding partner of the award-winning firm Ike Kligerman Barkley, they are all vehicles illustrating the myriad ways architecture is created. His involvement in them ranges from mentor to principal architect and designer, but all are collaborations, and in each chapter he focuses attention on a person who was particularly instrumental in realizing the project, whether the interior designer, the landscape architect, the contractor, a craftsperson, or the client. With an authoritative text by seasoned architecture and design writer Mitchell Owens and specially commissioned photography, John Ike: 9 Houses, 9 Stories explores and celebrates the inextricable bond between the architect and those who implement his vision, a give-and-take that results in singularly designed residences.

- Nora Murphy’s Country House Style Book by Nora MurphyLocated in New York, NYNora Murphy’s Country House Style Making Your Home a Country House By: Nora Murphy with Deborah Golden Photography by DuAnne Simon “Nora Murphy is in a country state of mind. The founder of Connecticut Country House, a venture that encompasses an online magazine and blog about all things country, her dedication goes way beyond milk paints and Americana crafts. Instead, the former Executive Vice President of Style at Ethan Allen has built a business and a lifestyle around embracing the concept of the country house.” —Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Nora Murphy has turned her passion for country house style and its embodiment—her own home in Newtown, Connecticut—into a multimedia juggernaut. Her blog, website, e-magazine, strong presence on social media, and increasing visibility in print media and on TV have earned her a devoted following all over the country and around the world. And now she has distilled the essence of her knowledge about the fundamentals of country house style and how to achieve it in this irresistible volume. In the introduction, Murphy lays out the universal elements of country house style: creating a place where everyone is always welcome; where comfort is always in style; where there’s always room for our favorite things; where there’s always a reason to celebrate; where we honor tradition by changing it up; where home extends well beyond our walls. The body of the book shows how the elements of this comfortable, comforting, easy aesthetic and approach to life can be applied in different ways and in different locations to striking, individual effect. Murphy features six homes, beginning with her own, each of which expresses a unique take on the style, from elegant country to English cottage country to vintage farmhouse country to historical country. Part primer, part wish book, Nora Murphy’s Country House Style, illustrated entirely with specially commissioned photography, is all inspiration. Nora Murphy studied interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and founded her own interior design and architectural and product illustration...Category

- Scott Mitchell HousesBy Rizzoli International Publications, Calvin KleinLocated in New York, NYA stunning volume that gathers the California designer's most impressive works to date, from coastal sanctuaries to modern country farms. A master of his genre, Scott Mitchell is celebrated for his warm approach to connecting the built and natural environment. Sought after for their minimalist, material-driven aesthetic, Mitchell's houses are studies in space, materiality, and light. Emphasizing an elegant spatial order, his projects respond to the natural appeal of their locations, be they bucolic retreats on Long Island or resplendent beach houses overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The first volume on his work, Scott Mitchell Houses is a sublime exploration of the architectural designer's impressive portfolio of projects. Dynamic compositions of light and shadow with a masterful use of concrete, Mitchell's monolithic forms draw on the surrounding environment via floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto vistas so cinematic that Tom Ford utilized one of Mitchell's homes in his neo-noir film Nocturnal Animals. Through previously unpublished photographs, readers are given an exclusive view into eight pivotal projects that span the globe from the Hamptons to Melbourne, featuring images by Ross Bleckner, Scott Frances, Trevor Mein, and Steve Shaw...Category
