About the Item
Karl Lagerfeld was and is one of the greatest names in fashion but less well know was his immense skill as a draughtsman and this book is devoted to the watercolour, pencil and ink drawings which he made over a period of thirteen years, all of the same model, Anna Piaggi. Piaggi was a brilliant fashion editor, an arbiter of taste and design, and one of the most original personalities of the modern fashion world, Anna Piaggi developed a unique mode of dressing, drawing on the past as well as the present, she consistently invented her own costumes: The results were always original and intensely dramatic. Lagerfeld's drawings provided an endlessly absorbing and provocative 'diary of dress', in his own phrase, and their bravura and sometimes very witty depiction of the effects and detail of Anna Piaggi's clothes gives fascinating clues to his own methods of design. This book is a true and private collaboration between two enormously talented people.
