Modern Prints and Drawings, a guide to a better understanding of draughtsmanship, by Paul J. Sachs. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1954. First edition hardcover with no dust jacket. 262 pp. A great reference book on modern prints and drawings written by Paul J. Sachs who was a professor of fine arts at Harvard University. It contains illustrated examples and a short explanation of each work. The author felt that a short explanation leaves room for the readers interpretation. The chapters cover the Impressionists, Post-Impressionists, Cubism, Surrealism, Expressionism and Abstract art throughout Europe, the United States, and Mexico. Still highly relevant today.
