" Munch " Expressionist Hardcover Art Book First Edition 1990 by David Loshak. Few images in the history of art are as widely recognized as Edvard Munch's The Scream. It conveys its powerful message very directly so that the viewer requires no knowledge of the circumstances of its creation to derive meaning from it. In a lengthy introduction illustrated with photographs of the artist at work, and prints and paintings by Munch and artists who influenced him in his early years, the author tells the story of Munch's artistic development in the light of his unsettled childhood, overshadowed by the death of his mother and is followed by a selection of 60 of Munch's paintings and prints. Each is illustrated in large-scale full color with an accompanying text which explains the subject matter, symbolism and pictorial devices of each work. David Loshak's many years; study of the subject and his Scandinavian cultural heritage, will give pleasure to its readers for many years to come. This " Munch " rare first edition vintage 1990 Expressionist hardcover art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection. Published by Mallard Press, Printed in Italy in 1990, authored by David Loshak. The hardcover book with dust jacket features a monograph survey of the Expressionist artworks of the artist Edvard Munch. Edvard Munch ( 1863 - 1944 ) was a Norwegian painter and printmaker whose evocative treatment of psychological themes built upon some of the main tenets of the late 19th Century Symbolism, and greatly influenced German Expressionism of the 20th Century. " The Scream " one of Munch's most famous paintings notably sold at auction for $119.9 million dollars. The Large format rare 1st edition is a out of print book. Dimensions: 10 3/4" W X 14 3/4" H X 1/2" D, 112 pages. It is in great vintage condition with light signs of handling to the dust jacket. There is a very light minor publishers indentation line in the dust jacket. Please see photos for condition reference.
