Translated from the French by Richard Miller the book tells through photographs and written reminiscence Brassai’s first hand experience of Paris nightlife in the 1930s: it's brothel, it's pimps, it's opium dens. A dark yet fascinating world where high society mixed with the underworld. The magnificent photos are accompanied by an autobiographical text in which Brassaï reminisces about his world and describes the extraordinary conditions under which he took his photographs.
