About the Item

Reagan, Ronald. Speaking My Mind: Selected Speeches. New York, London, Toronto, Sydney, Tokyo: Simon and Schuster, 1989. First Edition. Signed and Inscribed by Ronald Reagan. In original publisher’s dust jacket and ½ navy cloth over blue boards. Illustrated throughout. Presented is a signed and inscribed first edition of Speaking My Mind: Selected Speeches by Ronald Reagan. The book was published by Simon & Schuster in New York, in 1989. Ronald Reagan signed and inscribed this book to California attorney Ron Regwan on the publisher's page. The inscription reads, "To Ron Regwan- With Best Regards. Ronald Reagan," in black felt tipped ink pen. The book is presented in its original unclipped white dust jacket and navy cloth over blue boards. It is illustrated through with black and white photographs. Speaking My Mind: Selected Speeches is a collection of President Reagan's favorite addresses, selected and annotated by the President. Starting with "Remarks at Kiwanis International Convention," from June of 1951, working through his presidential years, and culminating with his "Farewell Address to the Nation," given on January 11, 1989, forty four speeches were selected for this book. Included is his speech on behalf of Barry Goldwater in 1964, "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny…," and his historic demand to Gorbachev in 1987, "Tear down this wall." Together with their annotations, the selected speeches offer an oral history of the conservative agenda of his era and help further define the “Reagan Revolution.” Ronald Reagan is one of the most well-remembered presidents of the modern era. Originally a Chicago Cubs sportscaster and later actor, Reagan switched career paths to eventually become America’s 40th president, holding office from 1981 to 1989. Nicknamed “The Great Communicator” for his effective oration skills, Reagan’s presidency was defined by his foreign policy. Initiatives such as the build-up of weapons during the Cold War, the Reagan Doctrine, and the Strategic Defense Initiative would all be cited as defining characteristics of the Reagan administration. CONDITION: First Edition. Original publisher’s white dust jacket, with red and black text and a color photograph of Reagan on the front, red and black titles on the spine, and color photograph of Ronald and Nancy Reagan on the back. Not price clipped. Very clean dust jacket, save remnants of tape adhesive on the back cover, over the barcode, presumably from an old price sticker. In the publisher's original 1/2 navy cloth over blue boards, with blind embossed presidential seal on front and gilt titles to spine. Pictorial endpapers of the draft of Reagan's inaugural address. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Signed by Truman Capote, First Edition, 1958
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Capote, Truman. Breakfast at Tiffany's: A short novel and three stories. New York: Random House, 1958. First edition, first issue printing. Signed by Truman Capote. In the original publisher’s orange first issue dust jacket and yellow cloth binding. Presented with an archival clamshell case. This is a signed, first edition, first issue of Truman Capote's classic novella chronicling the adventures of the free-spirited Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany's. In addition to the title novella, the book also includes three other short stories: House of Flowers, A Diamond Guitar, and A Christmas Memory. The book is issued its first issue dust jacket with the 10/58 date code one the front flap. "First Printing" is stated on the copyright page and the book signed by the author “Truman Capote” on the front flyleaf. Capote originally sold his story Breakfast at Tiffany's to Harper's Bazaar for $2,000, with intended publication in its July 1958 issue. Shortly after the publication was scheduled, Harper's editor Carmel Snow was ousted by the magazine's publisher, the Hearst Corporation, and Hearst executives began asking for changes to the novella's language as there was concern that Tiffany's & Co., a major advertiser, would react negatively. The story was removed from the Harper’s Bazzar publication schedule but Capote soon resold the work to Esquire for $3,000. His novella appeared in Esquire’s November 1958 issue. A collection of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s novella and three short stories by Capote was published by Random House in the same year. The novella received glowing reviews. "If you want to capture a period in New York, no other book has done it so well. He could capture a period and place like few others" (Norman Mailer). The novella was quickly adapted for the 1961 hit film starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. Truman Capote was born in New Orleans and educated in New York and Connecticut. He worked in the Art Department of The New Yorker and as a writer on a television show before going on his own as a full-time writer. His first novel at age 24, Other Voices, Other Rooms, brought him literary fame and a strong following, which continued throughout his life, reaching a peak with the success of his "nonfiction” true...
