T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings Furniture of Classical Greece

About the Item

This handsome book records the discovery and contemporary re-creation of Greek furniture designs virtually ignored for more than two thousand years. T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, internationally known as a furniture designer, spent more than two decades studying and collecting from the museums of the world the design motifs found in the sculptured reliefs, vase paintings, terracottas and bronze statues of classical Greece. From his research, he has recreated twenty-two models that cover the full range of Greek furniture from the sixth to the fourth centuries B.C. The book shows the various paintings and vase decorations which served as sources for Robsjohn-Gibbings. ABOUT THE AUTHOR -- A witty writer, Robsjohn-Gibbings was one of the most important post-war furniture designers and interior designers and was a design rebel who decried the middle-of-the-road bourgeouise tendency to worship antique recreations. BOOK DETAILS -- A two-cloth, patterned binding over hardback boards; released with dustjacket; 126 pp; b&w illustrations throughout with 4 color plates.
