William Eggleston’s Guide - John Szarkowski -1st Edition, MIT Press & MOMA, 1976

About the Item

First Edition, published by Museum of Modern Art, New York, and The MIT Press, Massachusetts, 1976. This first edition of this groundbreaking book, cited by photographic historian Andrew Roth as one of the 101 most influential photography books of the 20th century, was published to coincide with Eggleston's exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, the first single-artist show of colour photographs the institution exhibited. Shot between 1969 and 1971 the book unsentimentally depicts the family, friends, people and places of Eggleston’s hometown of Memphis with disarming immediacy, and by echoing the format of a photo album or a children's book, Eggleston turned away from the traditional catalogue format and presented the photobook as a work of art in itself. With an introductory essay by the noted photographer and critic John Szarkowski, this is an important and essential moment in the history of photography. Hardback with faux leather boards and photo inset on the front board, around 110 pages with 48 colour plates.

“Bravehearts: Men in Skirts” Hardcover – 1st Edition, 2003 – by Andrew Bolton. Shrink-wrapped. From the publisher: What do Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Prince Charles, and Boy George have in common? These and other sharply dressed, sexually secure, 21st-century men are incorporating skirts into their wardrobes. In this provocative, one-of-a-kind book, Andrew Bolton traces the warrior origins of kilts and sarongs and reveals how, far from feminizing men, skirts actually reinforce their virility. Some 150 photographs illustrate this colorful salute to the growing numbers of the few, if proud, men in skirts. The author, Andrew Bolton is the associate curator of the Costume Institute...
