19th Century Leather and Gold Leaf Hand Fan
About the Item
A stunning and rare example of a 19th century hand fan, made of black leather and decorated with gold leaf. The fan has a brisé style, meaning that it consists of narrow sticks that are connected at the top and can be folded together. The sticks are made of wood, celluloid, bone or ivory, and have intricate carvings and gold accents. The leather leaf is painted with gold leaf in a floral design, with a contrasting black background. The fan has a loop at the end of one of the guards (the outermost sticks) for hanging or holding. A beautiful and elegant accessory that reflects the fashion and taste of a bygone era. It is also a collectible item that showcases the craftsmanship and artistry of 19th century hand fan makers. Whether to display as a decorative piece, use as a prop, or simply admire, this fan is a treasure.
The fan measures 12" x 7"x 2" when fully opened.
