Art Deco Black Grosgrain Handbag

About the Item

This wonderful vintage handbag was made in the 1930s-1940s for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. The body of the bag is constructed from black grosgrain, while the kiss lock closure features a cherry red Bakelite hardware with gold-tone accents. There are several interior pockets and the size of the bag is a great too and enough to house all your needs for modern day use.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. Overall this bag is in great condition and has retained it's vibrancy. There is some wear to the base of the bag on the edge where it's gone slightly bald and there are one or two areas of loose thread.

Beautiful sculpture with beautiful patina Art Deco period representing a woman sitting feeding birds on oval terrace in black marble. Very fine work. Signed. France,  circa 1930 Armand Godard made many chryselephantine statuettes in bronze and ivory in the Art Deco style, especially for the foundry Edmond Etling. In the 1920s and 1930s, he exhibited in Paris in the salons of the Society of French Artists. During the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris, he showed a monumental statue 4.5 meters high and a patinated plaster sculpture.
