Fuset y Grau Indian Style 18K Gold Gem-Set and Diamond Bracelet

About the Item

Our extraordinary 18k gold, gem-set and diamond bracelet by Fuset y Grau, circa 1930, depicts a ceremonial procession of Indian royalty including riders in howdahs on elephants, carriage drawn by oxen plus attendants and other animals including camel and tiger. Decorated with a variety of calibre-cut colored stones, including rubies, emeralds, sapphires, turquoise, coral and onyx, set on three panels separated by tinted bone carved with elephant heads and studded with cabochon stones. Measures: 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide and 7.875 in (2.22 cm) inside circumference. In its original fitted leather gift box measuring 9.75 by 3 by 1 in (24.8 by 7.6 by 2.5 cm). Fuset y Grau was a leading figure of the Modernista movement in jewelry, sharing this reputation with another contemporary jeweller and compatriot, Lluis Masriera i Roses, both active in Barcelona from the end of the nineteenth century through the early twentieth century. Fuset y Grau's excellence was rewarded at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris where it was invited to exhibit its creations in 1925. The Spanish house was distinguished by its skill and artistry in combining ivory, plique-à-jour enamels, pearls, gem stones and gold engraving. The firm is particularly known for their jewelry exhibiting exotic cultural themes, including those of the Aztecs, Assyrians and Indians.
