About the Item

Mid 20th Century Silver and Abalone Brooch – c.1950 A nicely made mid-century brooch set with an oval abalone shell, mounted in a hand-tooled silver frame with scalloped edge and twisted border. Marked to the reverse with rubbed "SIL" stamp, indicating silver. Probably of Mexican or other international origin, circa 1950s–70s. The abalone shell displays strong natural colour with iridescent blue, green and violet tones. Age-related surface wear and patina to the metal. Original pin and clasp in working order. Measurements: 3.5 x 4 x 1 cm Weight: 13.1 grams

Mid-20th Century Baltic Amber Necklace with Graduated Polished Beads A finely made vintage amber necklace, dating to the mid-20th century, strung with 89 polished beads displaying the warm cognac tones and internal inclusions characteristic of natural Baltic amber. Each bead is individually hand-knotted on cord, and the necklace is fitted with a lobster clasp, likely a later replacement. The amber has good translucency with natural variation throughout, ranging from pale honey to deeper brandy hues. The beads are gently graduated, giving the necklace a harmonious balance and fluid line when worn. Measuring approximately 53cm in length and weighing 12.2 grams, it sits comfortably at collarbone level and wears well either alone or layered. Likely produced c.1950s–1970s, this is a classic example of mid-century Baltic amber jewellery...
