LAPIS CUFF ON AZURITE A blade of midnight blue lapis lazuli slices boldly across a silver cuff in Studio Greytak’s Lapis Cuff on Azurite. Thought to guide the soul to heavenly contemplation, this bluest of blue stones has been part of some of history’s most epic works of art including the death mask of King Tut and as the pigment in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Here it is framed by a brilliant iridescent ammolite, ancient fossils turned to gemstones, that flash a rainbow of color while bringing personal awakening. Brilliant orange fire opals, symbols of hope and luck, blaze beside deep green diopside, which lights the way to spiritual treasure. Earthy green strands of edenite inside clear quartz round out the piece with a special harmony, creating love, acceptance, and unity—even in the most polarizing of times. This assembly of stones is grounded at the base by a stunning piece of azurite-malachite. Captured in the midst of an eons-long process of transformation, these two forever intertwined minerals form the perfect bridge between the intuitive and intellectual self. The vibrant blue lapis lazuli is an amalgamation of lazurite crystals flecked with golden pyrite and white calcite that mimics the night sky. Once thought to ward off the evil eye, lapis lazuli is still considered a powerful protector and vision stone. It guards against negative thoughts and inspires deep self-reflection. Opal-like ammolites were formed when the fossils of ancient cephalopods from prehistoric inland tropical seas combined with aragonite and turned into gemstones. They bring prosperity and luck as well as steadiness and structure. Geologists search for diopside hoping that it will lead to an even more valuable stone, diamonds.
