About the Item
This is a very good quality and complete English handmade hardwood "Weighted" Club Chess Set game of 32 pieces, in the Staunton Fierce Knight pattern, all within a jointed wood box with sliding top and dating to the late 19th Century
The chess pieces are made of turned, carved and polished hardwood, with very good detail in the Staunton "Fierce Knight" design. The bases of the pieces are felted and "weighted" with metal inserts. The maker could be Jaques of London.
Lead Weighted Club sets like this one have large pieces and have a much nicer "feel" when playing.
Sizes: Kings: 8.5cm cm; Pawns: 4.3cm
The box is jointed, with a good fitting sliding top and a "Chess* label to the top.
Overall a very good quality antique weighted Club Chess Set.

This is a good and complete English handmade wood "weighted" chess set game of 32 pieces, in its original box with a sliding lid, made by John Jaques of London and dating to the mid 20th century period.
The chess pieces are made of turned and carved varnished wood. The bases of ALL pieces are weighted with metal pieces and the bases have a green felt/paper cover.
Weighted sets like this one have a much nicer "feel" when playing.
The pieces in the set are in the Staunton style.
Sizes: Kings: 70mm ( ~ 2.75 inches); Pawns: ~45mm (~1.7 inches)
The set comes complete with its original wood storage box, having a sliding lid and complete with a paper makers sticker to the lid.

19th C Antique Chess Set Game Regency Shape with 96mm Kings in Pine Lidded Box

This is a very good and complete handmade, hardwood chess set game of 32 pieces in a handmade pine box with a sliding lid, which we date to the turn of the 19th Century, Circa 1900.
The chess set is complete with 32 handmade and turned hardwood pieces, ( probably made of boxwood) all in the Regency shape or French Regence style. This Regence style are quite distinctive with the taller pieces and distinctive knights when compared to other designs and have a good "feel" when playing with. The box is handmade of pine with a sliding lid of good colour.
Kings are 96mm high (about 3~7/8 inches)
Knights are 90mm high
Pawns are 48 mm high (about 1~11/16 inches)

This is a high quality Games Compendium, complete with over 8 individual games, all in its original hardwood storage box with a hinged lid.
