Swedish Backgammom Box in Curly Karelian Birch with Playing Pieces, Swedish Empire (Karl Johan) 1820/30s. Complete with two Die made in bone and Playing Pieces for two players. This beautifully crafted backgammon box is made from curly Karelian birch with brass details and green felt inside lining. The curly Karelian birch was commonly used during the Empire period in Sweden for its beautiful textural qualities. The Swedish King during this period, Charles XIV John (Karl Johan XIV), was a former Napoleonic Marshal of France later chosen as King of Sweden. The inside is lined in green felt and features a playing field intended for Backgammon. Wear consistent with age and use. Slight fraying in felt on inside lining.
