Vintage Bisque Porcelain Chess Set with Etched Glass Board by Furstenberg

About the Item

Beautiful and rare bisque porcelain chess set “Made in Germany” by Fürstenberg Porcelain, circa 1947. The castings were made from the original 18th century molds to commemorate 200th year anniversary of the Furstenberg manufactory in 1947. They are a highly fired mint green and white glazed parian. The king is modeled after Duke Karl I of Brunswick the queen as his consort, Phillipine Charlotte. The bishops represent Johann George von Langen, and the knights are horse heads. The rooks are modeled as castles with conical spires. The pawns, of which were made after a Meissen model, as peasant boys with flails. Each base bears the Fürstenberg stylized upper case “F” stamp in a dark blue glaze. The king stands 3.75? tall with a 1.635? base. The faces have very fine detail; all pieces are as new with no chips or cracks. The chess pieces are housed in their original compartmented case with a felt-bottom that measures 17.5? square and is in fair condition. The board is made of etched glass with a straight edge and measures 17.25" x 17.25". Gorgeous and rare set for any game room or study! #2889.
