19th Century Chinese Carved Bone Calligraphy Brush
$680

About
Hand-carved of animal bone, this early 20th century calligraphy brush is composed of multiple beads depicting monkeys plucking ripe peaches off a tree branch. This playful scene references the Ming-dynasty novel "Journey to the West," in which the Monkey King Sun Wukong eats from the heavenly peach garden to obtain immortality. Finished with horse hair, this brush would have been used by a Qing-dynasty scholar to compose poetry or calligraphic paintings.
