An antique circa 1868 German Catholic heraldic Flag. Front reads: Katholischer Gesellen Verein (Catholic Journeymen Association) / Gegrundet 1868 (Founded 1868) / Dayton, Ohio. Back reads: Eintracht und Liebe (Unity and Love) / Frohsinn und Scherz (Merriment and Jesting) / Religion und Tugend (Religion and Virtue) / Arbeitsamkeit and Fleiss (Industriousness and Diligence). Beautifully designed in red and gold with a crest along the front a symbols at each corner. The backside features a portrait of Jesus holding a boy. The portrait is surrounded by flowers with a neoclassical ribbon towards the base. The flag has a gold tasseled edge.
