About the Item
A Large Early 18th Century Framed Indenture Document. The document (deed) is written in lengthy hand-written detail. Issued in three parts, indentures were legal documents cut with wavy edges, meaning two copies could be matched for authenticity. The wavy shaped cut, known as toothed gave part of the document's name-the indenture. The third part-the tripartite indenture-would remain with the court once an agreement had been reached.
Displays a desirable aged patina with wonderful calligraphy that adds visual interest to the document. Issued on the seventeenth day of September, 1734, on behalf of King George II. A wax seal on the bottom of document has the name, "Mary North" written beside it. Tastefully presented in a later wood and gilt frame.
This is a delightful antique frame indenture and fascinating legal record from 18th century England.
