Faux Albino Sea Turtle Shell Scrimshaw with American Historical Vignettes

About the Item

Faux Albino Sea Turtle Shell Scrimshaw with American Historical Vignettes Circa 1980s, Simulated Tortoiseshell The faux albino sea turtle shell scrimshaw sculpture is a unique and visually striking piece, created in the later 20th century to replicate the style of 19th-century sailors' scrimshaw. It is made of lacquered fiberglass/resin, designed to resemble the appearance of a genuine turtle shell. The top of the shell is engraved with the phrase "E pluribus unum," which translates to "Out of many, one" in Latin, along with depictions of American flags and the Liberty Bell. A banner engraved on the top proclaims, "We Owe Allegiance to No Crown," reflecting the patriotic sentiments associated with the American Revolution. The left side of the shell features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the 16th President of the United States, accompanied by a scene depicting a riverboat working dock. The right side showcases a portrait of George Washington (1735-1799), the first President of the United States, along with a harbor dock scene featuring a tall ship. In the center bottom of the shell, there is an engraved banner positioned beneath the wings of an eagle, with the inscription "Under My Wings Everything Prospers." This phrase evokes a sense of protection and prosperity. The overall design and execution of this piece mimic the authentic style of 19th-century sailors' scrimshaw, capturing the intricate engravings and historical vignettes commonly found on such artifacts. The faux albino sea turtle shell scrimshaw is ready for display, offering a beautiful and authentic look reminiscent of a true 19th-century masterwork. It represents a blend of historical references, patriotic symbols, and nautical imagery, making it a unique and captivating piece for collectors or enthusiasts of maritime art and Americana.
