Description: A rare and finely cast heraldic lion rampant finial, originally mounted atop a ceremonial military or civic flagpole or standard in 19th-century Belgium. This powerful sculpture is executed in solid bronze with a high copper content and features distinct brass highlights, giving it a luminous golden tone enhanced by surviving traces of original gilding. The lion stands in a proud rampant posture with muscular limbs, an expressive open mouth, extended claws, and a dramatically stylized tail — all hallmarks of the Flemish and Brabantine heraldic tradition. The expressive mane and dynamic pose reflect the Romantic historicism popular in Belgian public art and military regalia during the mid-to-late 1800s.
