Harvard Fraternal Medallion - Delta Kappa Epsilon DKE 1877 Robert P. Hastings Silver Medallion by the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity to Robert P. Hastings Harvard College 1873-1877 The Hastings College of Law was founded by Serranus Clinton Hastings, a man of diverse and magnificent accomplishments. Schoolmaster, lawyer, legislator, member of Congress, Chief Justice of Iowa and California, Attorney General, banker and expert adviser of the Alaska Purchase. Robert P. Hasting 1855-1890, son of Judge S.C. Hastings, the founder of the Hastings Law College. He was born at Benicia in 1855 and came to this city subsequently with his family. After passing through the common schools he was sent to Harvard, where he completed his course of studies. He returned, studied law, and formed a partnership with R.B. Wallace. Six years ago he was elected School Director, and was President of the School Board during his term. He was the Democratic candidate for Congress against W.W. Marrow four years ago. The Morning Call, San Francisco, October 7, 1890: OBITUARY ROBERT P. HASTINGS. Robert P. Hastings, the attorney, died Sunday evening at his late residence, 2024 Jackson street. His death was very sudden. He had been complaining of feeling unwell, but Sunday afternoon he took a walk with his family over the Presidio grounds. At about 4:30 o'clock he returned, and shortly after was attacked with a violent headache, which became worse rapidly until 7 o'clock, when he was seized with apoplexy and died. The cause of his death is given as cerebral hemorrhage. The deceased was a son of Judge Serranus.Clinton Hastings, the founder of the Hastings Law College. He was born at Benicia in 1855 and came to this city subsequently with his family. After passing through the common schools he was sent to Harvard, where he completed his course of studies. He returned, studied law, and formed a partnership with R.B. Wallace. Six years ago he was elected School Director, and was President of the School Board during his term. He was the Democratic candidate for Congress against W.W. Marrow four years ago. He leaves a widow and two children, a boy of 7 years and a girl of 3 years of age. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from his late residence. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers: Joseph M. Quay, Charles Haswell, J.D. Grant, L.B. Parrott, R. . Morrow, Adam Grant, Colonel Fry, George B. Heazleton and Professor Slack of the Hastings Law College.
