Antique Rare Sterling Silver Judaical Mezuzah
Located in Doha, QA
This is a very rare antique sterling silver (92.5% ) Mezuzah has been found in the city of Judenburg (translated in English as literally “Jews “). This is a historical city in Austria ,Styria. Judenburg was first mentioned in a 1074 and was a trading outpost on the route from the Mur Valley across the Obdach Saddle mountain pass to Carinthia, in which Jews played a very important role, being in the city’s coat arms. When Napoleon Bonaparte made his breakthrough to Italy, Judenburg was his headquarters (1796). In the beginning of 20th century ,the city was one of the centres of Austria -Hungary’s steel industry. In 1938, with the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany, Judenburg became part of the Third Reich. Due to presents of the word Jude (“Jew”) in the city’s name ,it was planned to rename the city but due to war outbreak it was postponed and never happened. During the WW2 a sub camp of Mauthausen concentration camp was located nearby, where a displaced persons’ reception centre was established after the war. This rare Mezuzah is unique and made out of highest quality silver. It opens from the top, like a parchment roll. It is almost impossible nowadays to find Mezuzah that age and in such good original condition as most of Judaical items...
