About the Item

Authentic French Asignat 50 Sols Note, issued during the French Revolution on May 23rd 1793. Assignats were a form of paper currency authorised by the French Constituent assembly to address the nations imminent bankruptcy. Despite the intended purpose to stabilize the economy, overprinting and inflation led to their devaluation contributing to economic chaos in France during the revolutionary period. Later Giltwood frame. France, Circa 1793.
