About

Jurassic era pair of pyritized Russian ammonite fossils mounted on black painted metal bases. Formed during a period of at least 150 million years these ammonites have fossilized in conditions lacking oxygen allowing the build up of some metallicpyrite, also known as fools gold.
Ammonites are an extinct group of pre-historic marine mollusc animals and although they resemble the nautilus species they are in fact closer to the octopus and squid family.
