Huge Museum Model of a Asian Stag Beetle

This almost 4 foot tall striking model of a Male Asian Stag Beetle... Dorcus Formosanus... is amazingly accurate. This example was hand made by Lorenzo Possenti. In Italy he is considered a "national treasure" and is well known to museums. It is very rare to see one of his pieces outside of a museum. His models have been on display all over Asia and Europe including the Museum of Natural History in both Vienna and Milano and the Oxford University Museum. The insect opens to show all the interior parts. Look closes and you can even see the brush hair at all the joints. We had custom iron display stands made to hold the 2 parts of the insects body upright.
