19th Century French Nautical Musical Automaton, circa 1860
Located in Nantucket, MA
Antique French Nautical Automaton, likely from Marseilles, circa 1860, a glass domed diorama with windmills and cottages on hillside, overlooking harbor with ship rocking on waves to a musical tune. The interior of glass dome has a hand painted landscape with trees, village and expansive sky; the diorama features a carved or molded cottage and windmill with figures winding along path down to the water's edge; a paper or papier-mache barque rides on a blue tissue paper sea; a pull-string activated mechanism plays music, rocks the ship on the sea...

Antique Hand Carved Gothic Church Panel of Feeding Pelican as Symbol of Christ
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning religious wall panel in thick relief with strong hook for easy mounting. For the collectors of stunning antique church relics we are also offering this marvelously hand carved pelican sculpture for wall mounting. The character ascribed to the pelican in this context is nearly as fabulous as that of the phœnix. From a clumsy, gluttonous, piscivorous water-bird, it was by the growth of legends transformed into a mystic emblem of Christ, whom Dante terms "Nostro Pelicano". St. Hieronymus gives the story of the pelican restoring its young ones destroyed by serpents as an illustration of the destruction of man by the old Serpent, and his salvation by the blood of Christ. The pelican in Christian art is an emblem of Jesus Christ, by "whose blood we are healed" and it is also a symbol of charity. Many early painters and carvers mistakenly represented it more similar to an eagle (much like in this antique church relic), and not as a natural pelican which is why most people today still are a bit confused at first when this stunning hand carved, symbolic bird is called a pelican. This striking and all hand carved, symbolic panel was originally part of a church or monastery communion rail...

Rare Spanish Colonial Renaissance Chariot Carriage Model Folk Art Sculpture
Located in Forney, TX
A magnificent antique Spanish Colonial Medieval High Renaissance style hand-crafted coach chariot - luxurious horse drawn carriage model. Born in the late 18th / early 19th century, likely Northern Mexico (New Spain), New Mexico or Texas, handmade by Spanish settlers / colonists, the exceptionally executed one-of-a-kind primitive folk art work features hand carved, painted and sculpted wood and clay construction, intricately detailed, with ornate polychrome and parcel gilt ornamentation. Provenance / Acquisition: Property from the Majestic Theatre Penthouse, Downtown San Antonio, Texas The Majestic Theatre is San Antonio's oldest and largest atmospheric theatre. The theatre seats 2,264 people, designed in Spanish Renaissance style and built by renowned Art Deco period architect John Eberson, for Karl Hoblitzelle's Interstate Theatres in 1929. Intended to be the most modern building in South Texas and the first theater in the United States to be air-conditioned, for many years it remained the largest theatre in Texas and the second largest movie theatre in the United States. Unbeknownst to many of its patrons, who gawk at the rich interior of San Antonio’s oldest theater as they take in a performance at the Majestic Theatre, sitting atop the historic structure is a three-story, 3,500-square-foot penthouse apartment that evokes ‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ for many years it was occupied by a wealthy tenant who threw lavish, extravagant parties attended by the city’s elite. That man, whose identity remains concealed moved out in recent years, leaving behind a collection of high-end vintage furnishings...
