About the Item

Vintage tire manufacturing and repair machine salesman sample. This piece would have been shopped around to various service stations and garages. Its purpose was to vulcanize tires, which, for the uninitiated, is a process where rubber (natural or synthetic) is heated to roughly 150° and treated with sulfur to harden the material. For garages and service stations across the country, this was a practical and cost-effective way to repair tires, especially applying patches for road trippers after Dwight D. Eisenhower introduced the Interstate Highway system. At the time, it would be one of the more expensive pieces of machinery at a garage or service station, thus the need for this particular salesman sample. This piece includes a model Goodyear tire within the machine. Lights and other electrical components are painted on. Sold with the original case.
