About the Item

This really excellent portable gramophone was made by 'His Master's Voice' Model: 102 first made in 1931 and this one dates from 1935. Model No: 102 C Serial no: 836859 This is the deluxe variant in black leather cloth. It was very popular in its day and now due to its superb playing quality. HMV 102 is still widely recognized as marking the pinnacle of portable gramophone design. It remained in production, with minor changes, from 1931 until the late 1950s. This model is finished in black rexine leather cloth with a brown motor board, the internal fittings are chromium-plated. It has got an automatic or manual start and stop, via selector lever. Single spring motor with the 5a soundbox and very proportional tone arm and horn system Also comes with an HMV 102 manual. Condition: It is in really outstanding working condition. Dimensions in cm: Height 16 x width 29 x depth 43 Dimensions in inches: Height 6 inches x width 11 inches x depth 1 foot, 5 inches His Master's Voice, abbreviated HMV is a trademark in the music business, and for many years was the name of a large record label. The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting of the dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone. In the photograph on which the painting was based, the dog was listening to a phonograph cylinder.
