About the Item

HMV portable gramophone, Model 102, introduced 1931, this is an early model dating from circa 1932/3. Manufacturer: His Master's Voice, UK Red Rexine leather-cloth, red lacquered metal and chrome finished interior and fittings. Replaced red turntable felt. Super original un-restored condition. Serial number: 102023062 The HMV model 102 portable Gramophone was originally introduced in July 1931. It was, and is, still considered to be one of the best portable wind-up gramophones ever produced. This example is an early version (as it has no letter A, B etc. after the number 102). But it also has the updated No. 6 brake (an improvement on the first batch). So this dates it to approximately 1932-1933. It has the desirable and less common 5AB soundbox. Complete with original chrome needle tin, and a further set of 3 HMV needle tins: soft, half and loud tones. Each tin is more-or-less full. Also included is a starter set of six 78's, all Enrico Caruso HMV recordings, of some of Caruso's most popular songs and arias: Cat. No. D.A. 103: ) Sole Mio / 'A Vucchella 105: Amor mio / Cielo turchino 107: Hantise D'Amour / Because 108: A Dream / For you alone 112: Recondita Armonia / E VLucevan Le Srelle 2-52641: La donna e mobile (single sided) Dimensions approx.: Width 29 cm, depth 42 cm, height 15 cm; Weight: 7.4 kg Condition: Condition is very good and the overall impression is about as good as you can find of this type of gramophone. There are a few minor marks and scuffs to corners, a few small scratches to the surfaces here and there, but no really notable damage. All the metalwork is good, although some minor tarnish and rust in places. Technical: Excellent working order, and sounds great!
