About the Item
c. 1770s pedal harp manufactured by Georges Cousineau (1733-1800), a French luthier who specialized in harps; Cousineau's signature is present on the soundboard as well as the city of manufacture (Paris). The crown is decorated with an ornate floral motif and features Rococo leaf scroll appliques which form a nautilus-inspired spiral of foliage. The harp has lost its strings over time and has a gap in the the soundboard, but this instrument remains an exquisite example of French craftsmanship, as well as an overall art piece.
