The underside of this box has a subtly concave form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets. The surface of this antique silver tobacco box is plain and unembellished. This silver tobacco tin or box retains the original sprung flush hinged hallmarked subtly convex cover, which opens by applying gentle pressure to each side. The interior of the box retains the original gilding. This antique Edwardian piece is an exceptional example for its type. This is a lovely antique Swiss eight airs cylinder six bells-in-view music box, circa 1880 in date and bearing the horn and dagger stamp of the renowned maker Paillard Vaucher Fils (PVF) of St Croix, Switzerland. The gonzalo alves case is boxwood strung, crossbanded in walnut with floral marquetry decoration on the lid. There are six bells with enamelled butterfly strikers and a beautiful tune indicator and the original music sheet is on the underside of the lid. The cylinder length is approx: 28 cm.
