Miniature Dutch Baroque Style Silver Mandolin Flask
About the Item
Dutch silver flask in the form of a mandolin with intricate Baroque style decoration, including cranes and a castle among floral arabesques on the front. The reverse depicting a charming scene influenced by Dutch old master genre paintings of two men with two dogs in a fenced yard surrounded by detailed foliage and trees. Complete with a fret and six individual silver wire strings. A tour de force in craftsmanship. No discernible hallmarks.
Hinged top reveals a hidden flask, for liquor or perfume. A whimsical and quite unusual piece.
