About the Item
Pair of walnut laminated and marble octagonal end tables with enclosed speakers by Long Island NY high end audio manufacturer Empire. Functional as speakers as well as end tables or pedestals. Could also be retrofitted with subwoofers for a compact home theater.
Borrowed from AudioKarma dot org: Empire was a long established Long Island manufacturer of turntables and cartridges which also sold a series of speakers which were almost all designed not to look much like speakers, instead being columnar with marble tops and so on so that they could function and look like end tables or pedestals for whatever. The had downward facing woofers which coupled them nicely to the floor boundary, and used high dispersion drivers for the upper end, coupled to acoustic lenses.
The marble slabs on top are both marked as being made in Portugal on the base. Some of the laminate is coming up on a few spots, but no major peeling. Some wear to the base, this is photographed. The speakers are untested but presumed to be in working condition.
