Access to the Steinway sound and touch at a more accessible price point compared to new models. A rebuilt Steinway is essentially a new instrument, reborn to meet the standards of the most demanding musician, whilst acquiring a collector's piece enriched with the antique styling and exquisite veneers of a vintage Steinway cabinet. Why Rebuild a Steinway Piano? Over the course of a few decades due to factors such as heavy use or storage ambient conditions, it may be desirable to rebuild an instrument. The rebuilding process ensures not only that the piano retains its legendary tonal qualities but also meets modern performance standards. A cabinet over time may suffer knocks or scratches. During a rebuild the piano is sent to to the Inam factory in Germany to be repolished. Work Undertaken During Rebuild Keyboard - New Steinway Klüge keyboard is fitted. Soundboard - Each is assessed individually. Piano is stored in 6 degree ambient humidity to test the soundboard and see if any gaps form. If required, the soundboard is shimmed. Soundboard stripped and refinished. Frame - The frame is sanded down and re-gilded in Steinway gold. Cabinet - Cabinet is stripped. Any missing pieces restored. Cabinet is repolished at Inam factory where all new Steinways are polished. Wrestplank - This is original. A replacement wrestplank can only be undertaken at Steinway workshops. Soundboard - This is original. A replacement soundboard can only be undertaken at Steinway workshops. Action - A brand new Steinway action is installed. All parts are brand new and complete. New dampers New bushings New wippens New bridges New hammers New strings New agraffes New felts New pins An investment in sound and craftsmanship Owning a Steinway is an investment in sound and a lifetime of musical exploration, a meeting of elegance, legacy, and technology, all under the revered Steinway name. Pleyel Grand Piano, Paris 1870
By Pleyel
Located in Littleton, CO
This Pleyel concert grand piano crafted in Paris in 1870 is a timeless masterpiece that embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of 19th-century French piano manufacturing. Pleyel instruments are renowned for their exceptional quality and rich musicality, representing the pinnacle of piano design in the Romantic era, and this piano – an early example of the technological innovation of cross-stringing that was burgeoning during the period – is one in a series of only six ever produced. This piano is in extraordinarily immaculate condition with nearly every original part, including the soundboard, pristine ivory keys, and the brass inlay in its beautifully figured walnut cabinet. Candle stands slide forward on either side of the collapsable music desk. This piano was first purchased by the French Count Charles Étienne Gustave Le Clerc, count of Juigné (1825-1900), one of the wealthiest landowners in Brittany and a member of the French National Assembly, later a member of the House of Representatives, and in late life, the Senate. The piano was restored in 1997 at Maison Erard by master restorationist Frits Janmaat in Amsterdam, and later conditioned by Edwin Beunk. In recent years, some of Europe's finest historically-informed musical artists played this Pleyel in PBS concert performances in collaboration with the late Sergiu Luca. Standing on substantial carved legs and brass wheels, the piano exudes a majestic presence through the graceful lines of its Second Empire style cabinet that embodies the period's aesthetics. The keyboard, meticulously crafted from ivory and ebony, is a testament to the attention to detail in every aspect. Its 85 keys...
