About the Item

Quality ship's compass from Boston maker E.S. Ritchie. Heavy brass bowl is engraved with the maker's name and patent dates: Sept. 9, 1862, and Apr. 7, 1863, with a cylindrical compass card. Fitted to the original timber box. One section of wood is missing from the box bottom. Box lid is sliding. A very, very early Ritchie compass. Weight: 6 lbs. Overall Dimensions: 6'H x 9"W x 8"D Made: America Material: Brass Date: 1863
