About the Item
Antique Robert J. Paisley boat life preserver buoy saftey ring featuring a hard foam core with a white painted canvas cover and hemp rope handles.
"The Robert J. Paisley was built at West Superior, Wisconsin in 1901 as CHRISTOPHER for W.H. Meyer & Christopher H. Starke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.. Renamed THOMAS BRITT 1924, J.E. SAVAGE in 1928 and then ROBERT J. PAISLEY in 1932. She was sold to Marine Salvage in Port Colborne in 1965 then resold to the Algonquin Corporation Ltd. then chartered to the Hall Corporation of Canada under the name ROBERT J. PAISLEY..
On 4 October 1966 she ran aground near Michigan City, Indiana and the resulting damage was sufficient to end her career.. She was retired at Sarnia, Ontario shortly thereafter and on 15 May 1969 she was towed down the Welland Canal by the tugs SUSAN HINDMAN and ARGUE MARTIN for the last time.. On the 16th she arrived at Hamilton, Ontario where she was cut up for scrap by United Metals & Refiners Ltd." (Source: shipspotting dot com)
