About the Item

Fantastic Chris craft speedboat sales model, circa 1930s. It belonged to an antique speedboats sales shop. The shop opened in 1912 and closed on the 1965. Perfect for a nautical fan. The speedboat has been re-polished, leaving the original paint under it. You can see it on the pictures. It had some restorations, the red light on the front of the boat was missing the red glass so it has been replaced. Also the leather one the seats have been replaced. The windows are made of acrylic. Some company history: The company that is now referred to as Chris-Craft, was started on Point du Chene, in Algonac, Michigan, a small town on the St. Clair River. It was here that Christopher Columbus Smith built his first boat in 1874 at age 13. These Smith-built boats were referred to as "punts" or "skiffs." With his reputation as a master boat builder on the grow, Chris joined with his brother Hank in 1881 to begin producing boats full time. As demand for their dependable hunting craft increased, the duo started building boats in rapid succession, perhaps laying the ground work for their future as builders of "standardized" runabouts. The Smith Ryan boat Company is formed, focusing on building fast, economically priced runabout boats for mass market distribution. Products debut at New York and Chicago Boat Shows. 1927. Chris-Craft is recognized as world's largest builder of mahogany constructed power boats. Jay Smith, Chris's son, is appointed President and General Manager, a position he would hold for the next 31 years before his retirement. Chris-Craft is also recognized as the world's largest builder of mahogany constructed recreational powerboats.
