About the Item
Scrimshaw is the art of carving bone, ivory, or other materials. It was a popular pastime for whalers in the 19th century, who created decorative and utilitarian objects. This very utilitarian cutlery caddy came from an estate on Boston's Beacon Hill from an avid Early American collector.
Hand-carved of walnut and featuring a heart and scrimshaw on the handle and four corners, it truly is a charming folk art piece. Fast forward two centuries and it make a great place to store your remotes.
