Modellino in scala con scafo a fasciame e vele in cotone, riproduzione del Cutter Aurico Sorella, varato nel 1858 e restaurato nel 1990 su progetto di Carlo Sciarelli.
Buono stato di conservazione.
Misure: cm 26 × 6,5 × 35 – inches 6.3 x 2.6 x 13.7.
Il Sorella è un cutter aurico varato nel 1858 presso il cantiere Dan Hatcher, nel sud dell’Inghilterra. Nel 1990 è stato restaurato presso il Cantiere Alto Adriatico di Monfalcone su progetto di Carlo Sciarelli, che ne ha curato il recupero rispettandone la struttura e lo spirito originari.
L’imbarcazione appartenne all’armatore Renato Pirotta ed è stata per anni ormeggiata presso lo Yacht Club Adriatico di Trieste. È considerata un pezzo significativo della tradizione navale storica, una delle imbarcazioni più antiche ancora attive nel Mar Mediterraneo.
Il restauro del Sorella rappresenta un esempio di intervento di grande gusto e sensibilità, volto alla valorizzazione del patrimonio della vela d’epoca.
Carlo Sciarelli (Trieste, 1934 – 2006) fu ingegnere e progettista navale, tra le figure più rilevanti della marineria italiana del Novecento.
Colto e appassionato, definito un “geniale autodidatta”, visse un profondo legame con il mare e con il design navale classico. Fin da ragazzo frequentò i cantieri del porto di Trieste, che furono per lui fonte di ispirazione e luogo d’apprendimento per tutta la vita.
La sua cultura, vasta e raffinata, si rifletteva nella concezione della barca come opera tecnica, estetica e poetica.
Nel corso della sua carriera disegnò 138 imbarcazioni, a vela e a motore; il suo primo progetto risale agli anni ’50.
Le sue creazioni si distinguevano per linee eleganti e filanti, animate da una costante ricerca di bellezza e armonia, unite a scafi solidi e affidabili. Sciarelli seppe armonizzare la tradizione velica dei velieri dei secoli XVIII e XIX con la funzionalità moderna.
Contrario alle mode del momento, sosteneva che “le barche devono essere belle e navigare bene”.
Le sue opere sono oggi considerate vere e proprie opere d’arte, custodite come oggetti da collezione.
Nel 1970 pubblicò il volume “Lo Yacht. Origine ed evoluzione del veliero da diporto”, ancora oggi testo di riferimento per architetti navali, storici e appassionati, considerato un classico della cultura navale mondiale. In esso Sciarelli interpreta lo yacht come espressione estetica e spirituale.
Tra le sue barche più celebri si ricordano Serenity, Alnair, Glorius, San Nicolò, Ritosa e le barche scuola per la Marina Militare Italiana.
