Peloro in ottone firmato HEATH & C Ltd London N. 93 della seconda metà del XIX sec., azienda costruttrice di strumenti scientifici fondata nel 1845 e attiva fino al 1937. Lo strumento è dotato di un sistema di mira con filtri e di una rosa a otto venti completa di cerchio goniometrico inciso. Il peloro è montato su giunto cardanico e alloggiato nella sua scatola originale in legno di noce, con ganci di chiusura in ottone. Ottimo stato, perfettamente funzionante. Misura scatola cm 20x20x16 – 7.9x7.9x6.3 inches. L'ultima foto è la confezione regalo. Curiosità Si tratta di un grafometro inserito in una corona circolare graduata e con i punti cardinali di una bussola, ma senza magneti, che serve a determinare la posizione della nave e a rilevare oggetti non rilevati dalle normali bussole: traguardando due particolari costieri riconoscibili si riporta sulla carta nautica le corrispondenti rette di direzione; il punto di incontro di queste due rette è il punto dove si trova la nave. Il termine peloro deriva dal nome del pilota di Annibale che lo assisteva nel condurre le sue truppe attraverso l’Europa e lo manteneva in contatto con Cartagine attraverso il mare.
