19th Century Black Forest Wall Shrine with St. Anthony of Padua & Jesus
About the Item
19th Century Black Forest Wall Shrine with Porcelain St. Anthony of Padua & Jesus will make a splendid devotional for any room, and features sculpted wood combining the Renaissance and Classical styles in a lovely oval form upon which has been placed burgundy velvet, making the painted porcelain figurine of St. Anthony cradling the infant Jesus in his arms more prominent. The porcelain statue rests on a semi-circular corbel carved from the same wood. The oval frame is sculpted with an urn filled with flowers on top, with cascading floral sprays, scrollwork and acanthus plumes. The porcelain statue exhibits marvelous detail, and has also been hand-painted with incredible artistry and precision depicting the pensive expressions on the faces, with elaborate robes and raiment contrasted with the painted coloration. Gold highlights complete the look.
St. Anthony of Padua is depicted this way because of a miraculous apparition. While traveling he went into a room alone for prayer and meditation, while his hosts went out for a walk. The infant Jesus miraculously appeared to him, and his hosts saw the apparition through the open window.

- 19th Century French Gothic Sacrament CabinetLocated in Dallas, TX19th Century French Gothic Sacrament cabinet was artfully sculpted from solid oak and fruitwood to create a remarkable religious artifact designed to be appreciated throughout the ages! The trapezoidal form of the casework is in keeping with the Gothic style, which historians concur originated in the Cathedral of St. Denis during the middle of the 12th century. Boldly molded crown follows the complex contours and overlooks the case below which features a single door flanked by cornerposts that feature pilasters facing front as well as the sides, with recessed arched panels topped with recessed circular frames above filled with carved rosettes highlighted in gold. The arched recesses facing the front are also filled with carved floral and wheat motifs also highlighted in gold, representing the Bread of Life. - Antique Large Carved Oak Figure of Saint Anthony of Padua, 18th-19th CenturyLocated in New York, NYFine hand carved oak figure of Saint Anthony of Padua Late 18th- Early 19th Century Saint Anthony is depicted with his head raised, mouth ajar, as if in the process of speaking. He stands upright wearing his traditional Franciscan robes and holding open a book. Beautifully carved with high level of detail, unusual for oak pieces. Oak is a dense hardwood which is difficult to carve and it's rare to see this level of detail in an early oak sculpture. Saint Anthony is the Patron Saint of lost things. While living at the monastery, he had a treasured book which contained psalms and personal observations. His book was stolen by a man who decided to leave the monastery and Anthony ferverently prayed for its return as the cost of a new book would have been beyond his means. The thief repented and returned the book which is believed to be preserved at the Franciscan Library in Bologna. He is one of the most popular Catholic saints...Category
