This antique, early 20th century sculptural wall plaque of Christ may have been used as a decorative and meaningful piece by the grave tomb of a lifelong believer. It certainly was looked after very well, because it is in very good condition and very clean too. Here, the artist has perfectly captured Christ, looking strong and alive yet serene at the same time. For some, looking at Christ in his role as an example for mankind much more suits their view on life than, for example, looking at Christ on the cross. Even though He is wearing a crown of thorns here too. Maybe the artist is telling us that anyone who wants to live a true and honest life (in this world) is bound to run into 'resistance' or some sort of 'pain'. Carving a shape into stone is one thing, but hand-carving everything else away and leaving a perfect face of Christ out of a material as hard as this marble, is simply amazing. If you already have a place in mind for it then this glorious antique could be gracing your house of prayer, home or garden soon.
