  • Mid-20th Century Israeli Silver-Plated Mezuzah Case by Israel Hadany
    Located in New York, NY
Handmade in Jerusalem, this Israeli silver-plated mezuzah is distinguished by its strikingly modern aesthetic. Bold Hebrew letters from top to bottom read, “Shaddai” used for one of the names of G-d. The letters displayed shows a modern aesthetic of linear and minimalistic quality. Easy to read, the original silver-plated mezuzah is in great condition with an engraved signature of Hadany found on the back. The Mezuzah is a tiny receptacle that houses a parchment scroll which contains two verses from the scriptures. It is attached to the doorway of every Jewish home. Israeli artist, Israel Hadany is both a sculptor and crafter with specialization in silver made Judaica. He studied painting at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1957. Thereafter, Hadany went on to teach Sculpture and Design at Bezalel Academy of Art, Jerusalem, Israel. He continued with his imprint on the international art scene through his representation of Israeli artistry. Some of his notable public works include 1973 Sculpture, Eshkol Park, Dimona, 1975 Glass Sculpture in Beit Yad Lebanim, Jerusalem, 1977 Memorial Sculpture at Ben...
