About the Item

Hand-crafted, fine quality and decorative church censer. This possibly unique church incense burner was hand-crafted around the turn of the century which is why the brass now has such a beautiful patina. Integrated in the stylishly curved arm that holds the burner is one of the oldest Christograms, the Chi-Rho. It consists of the superimposed, Greek letters chi (?) and rho (?), the first letters of the Greek word ???st?? (meaning Christ). Although this church relic has a Gothic feel to it, in a more subtle way it is designed in the Arts and Crafts Style. A skilled metal worker and artisan around the year 1900 must have spent a substantial amount of time designing and hand-crafting this Christian incense burner and the result of his work can now be enjoyed by you and by generations after you. Apart from some denting to one side of the circular brass base this rare, meaningful and decorative antique is in good condition. It is a great piece for home decoration, but we would not be surprised if it would, again, go to a house of worship somewhere on our beautiful planet, because this religious antique lifts your spirit every time you watch and use it.
